Last night on Hockey Night in New York, Ethan Sears of the NY Post joined to chime in on the Isles play, Lou's work to keep the Isles afloat, and who's the biggest threat to chase the Isles towards the top of the Metro standings
The Isles had another strong week collecting 5 of 6 points vs the Oilers, Caps, and Canes. Sean and Stefen discussed how the Isles keep making it happen and whether they can keep it up for the rest of the season.
Good Morning, Islanders Country.
If you’re like me, you need a break from Christmas “break.” The food, the family, the festivities, did I mention family? It’s all good stuff but exhausting, especially as a parent. Without the adrenaline rush of opening the next gift, it becomes a whirlwind of wrapping, cleaning up, assembling toys, and regretting how much you still managed to eat and drink during limited free time.
Let’s hope it was more of a relaxing three days off for the Islanders, who, after their 5-4 win in Carolina, deserved some time to savor what they accomplished between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Isles have points in 17 of their last 19 games and find themselves alone in second place in the Metro as the NHL returns to action tonight.

“I just think for [the players] it’s shut their mind out of the game,” head coach Lane Lambert said before the Carolina game. “But you gotta do something. Some form of physical activity over the course of the next three days. I know they will, whether it be a bike ride or whatever it may be.”
While those around the league have been slow to notice, the Islanders have been one of the best teams in the league over the last 17 games (11-2-4) with an offense that is clicking, a defense that should get healthier, and a goalie tandem that has been good but can be even better. At 16-8-9, the Isles are three points ahead of where they were after 33 games last season and are playing at a 102-point pace.
Following the O.T. loss in Washington and the 5-4 win in Carolina, there are three more Metro games before the end of the calendar year. Two games against the Penguins, including one on New Year’s Eve and one against the surprising Capitals on Friday, will determine whether the good vibes felt during the holiday break remain when we drop the ball on 2023 and start 2024.
