We must really love this team to remain in a committed long-term relationship after what we’ve endured this season. After they wined and dined us last Thursday night vs. Tampa Bay, we started envisioning a bright future together.
But then, all their bad habits, all the things that disappoint us, and seed doubt returned. They keep saying all the right things, and we want to believe they can change and be the team we think they can be, but more times than not, it has only led to more heartache, though we keep coming back for more.
It’s hard to say this Islanders team is supposed to beat anyone, but these last two games were games you are supposed to win if you want to be taken seriously as a team that can make a run for a playoff spot.
We can still feel good about Patrick Roy behind the bench moving forward, but the timing of the coaching change called for an immediate and lasting shot in the arm. And while there are signs they are a ship turning slowly in the right direction, they won’t have time to catch any teams they’re chasing.
