Good Morning, Islanders Country.
Where have you gone, Wade Dubielewicz? Isles Nation turns its lonely eyes to you - woo, woo, woo. The last time the Islanders were in this type of multi-team race to make the playoffs, a diminutive career AHL goaltender led the Islanders to four straight wins to end the season when their playoff chances looked far bleaker than they do right now.
LISTEN: I spoke about the 2007 playoff run and other Wade Dubielewicz moments with Lighthouse Hockey on Weird Islanders around this time last year.
I bring up Doobie because we have no way of knowing how the next 10 days are going to play out. There may be an unlikely hero, a star returning, or a trade acquisition finally having his moment, but the season’s narrative and how you feel about the coach, GM, and some players hinge on the outcome.
By the end of the night, the Islanders may find themselves out of a playoff spot for the first time since Feb. 16. That’ll be the case if both Pittsburgh (@NJ) and Florida (vs BUF) win their respective games. But things can change as fast as they did this weekend, but maybe this time, for the better.
We don’t know what to expect, but you better buckle up for it.
