Good Morning, Islanders Country.
I wasn’t sure if they had it in them, but the New York Islanders are on the run.
They’ve won five straight and eight of ten, making them, improbably, one of the hottest teams in the NHL. Lou believes, Patty believes, and the team believes. If they continue to play like this, they’ll soon start making believers out of those of us who were ready to turn the page on the season. Myself included.
Throughout the early season, Patrick Roy told us that despite the results, he liked how his team played and deserved better. That may be true, but I also know the team wasn’t playing the way it is right now.
“On this stretch, we’ve gotten to our brand of hockey,” Anders Lee said. “We executed that well, it feels natural, the way it’s come together.”
It’s four lines, it’s physical, it’s strong goaltending, timely scoring, and, dare we say, a shutdown penalty kill. That it’s happening in the aftermath of losing Noah Dobson and Ryan Pulock is wild, and that it’s happening with the likes of Tony DeAngelo, Scott Perunovich, and Marc Gatcomb makes it even wilder.
