Good Morning, Islanders Country.
The Isles are in Detroit tonight to face off with the hottest team in the Eastern Conference. A few weeks ago, you were looking at this at a huge four-point game against a team a few points ahead of you in the standings. However, after six straight wins, the Red Wings are up 10 points on the Isles, making the Flyers and Lightning the realistic teams the Isles are chasing.
There are four games until the Mar. 8 deadline (at DET, vs. BOS, vs. STL, at SJS). Four points in eight games simply won’t be good enough. If the Isles find themselves down 7-10 points in the standings by next Friday, you may want them to be sellers, but the reality is they don’t have much to sell.
ESPN put out their trade deadline big board, a list of the Top 50 players that could be available based on impact. The list, compiled by Greg Wyshniski, was based on “conversations with sources and media reports from around the NHL.”
You want to take a guess on how many Islanders were on it? Zero. Zilch. Nada.
