Good Morning, Islanders Country.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all our readers, subscribers and especially paid subscribers for their support this season.
This newsletter has become a daily part of my nighttime (and early morning) routine as I strive to find the right tone and capture the feelings of the fanbase through the inevitable ups and downs, twists, and turns of the season.
Occasionally, I just go through the archive of posts and open up a random day. It really is remarkable how many chapters there are to a season - some more satisfying and rewarding to look back on than others.
The idea behind Isles Fix is that we read, watch, and listen to everything, so you don’t have to. If you’re a subscriber, it means that you are getting everything you need to know about the Islanders all in one place, from opinion and news to stats, team history, and the most relevant social media moments and highlights on a daily basis. It’s unlikely you agreed with all my takes, but hopefully, you felt that it was well-conceived, informed, and were able to learn some things along the way.
What’s next?
I’m still working out what the frequency should be during the off-season.
Certainly, when there is news, we’ll be writing about it, but I will take a step back from publishing five days a week for a bit and then try to come up with creative ways to bring Isles content to you during the summer.
Look out for a survey request to get a better sense of what parts of the newsletter you enjoy more than others. I also want to hear recommendations and suggestions for new content. The format we’ve had for the last two years could change for next season if that’s what the readers want and prefer.
A message to our paid subscribers
Your support has been validation for this unique and comprehensive way to bring Islanders fans their news and give them their “fix.”
I have some ideas on how to expand this brand and provide more exclusive content for you, and hope to be able to execute some of them for the start of next season. I want this to become a community of subscribers and more than only an e-mail to your inbox.
I look forward to sharing these with you at the appropriate time.
🎧 Eyes on Isles Podcast: A Retrospective “On the latest edition of the Eyes on Isles podcast, Joe Buono (@IslesFix) and Andy Francess (@AndyFrancess) share their thoughts on the Islanders being eliminated by the Hurricanes in six games as Joe shares the sights and sounds from the stunned arena. Plus, key takeaways from "clean out" day, a look at what UFAs will be back, and are goalies becoming the running backs of the NHL?”
🔗 Islanders players believe in themselves, but what about owners? by Andrew Gross, Newsday “The Islanders’ players still believe their group as constituted can do great things. Time will tell whether Islanders’ ownership is just as convinced. Tuesday was a silent day for the organization following Friday’s first-round ouster with a 2-1 overtime loss to the Hurricanes in Game 6 at UBS Arena and Monday’s breakup day at Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow.”
🔗 NY Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield doesn't know what to expect in free agency via Eyes on Isles “The 6'5 right-handed defenseman is entering free agency with his market value arguably at an all-time high after setting a career-high in goals (6) and points (24) as the Islanders' defense factored in the scoring more so than in previous seasons. He also played all 82 games and came out of the season as healthy as he has in recent seasons.”
And we leave you with this…The #NHLUnitedByHockey Mobile Museum is stopping by the Long Island Children's Museum today, 5/3! Stop by this free exhibit and learn more about diversity and inclusion within hockey on the ice, in the front office and corporate suites, and behind the mic within the NHL
