Good Morning, Islanders Country.
Do you know which NHL team has the most shootout wins in history?
It’s the New York Islanders. Thanks, Frans Nielsen!
The Isles have historically been a great shootout team, but things have evened out in a big, big way the last two seasons. After last night’s 2-1 shootout loss to Minnesota, the Islanders are now a woeful 1-for-14 and have lost all five games that have gone to the skills competition. They’re 5-for-47 over the last two years!
You’re not going to win them all, but with things as tight as they are for the final two playoff spots in the Eastern Conference, it’s possible, if not likely, that it’ll come down to one or two points.
That was a hard-earned point, but it stings a bit to play as well as they did and not earn the result. The effort was there. The defensive structure was there. They were very good, but Filip Gustavsson was just a bit better.
"We played good. Really good. Lots of chances. Great structure. Good road game. Total compete. Really a fantastic game. It's a shame we didn't get two points. We deserved it." - Lane Lambert
The Isles have now put together consecutive games that are a blueprint for how they need to play the rest of the season. Last night, they had more shots, more scoring chances, and more high-danger chances than the Wild.
They just missed out on the extra point.
