If the wins in Dallas and Detroit made you cautiously optimistic, you weren’t alone. If you are back believing that the playoffs are possible after a dominant 5-1 win over the Boston Bruins, you also have company there.
This fanbase has been desperately searching for signs of life for weeks now. Yes, there had been wins here and there, but they always came with a feeling of unsustainability. The Isles either gave up too many shots, or took a bad penalty, or let in a bad goal leading to a another blown third period lead.
There’s always been something, but things are starting to feel different.
When Patrick Roy replaced Lane Lambert on Jan. 20, we all expected that it would give this team a shot in the arm and a bump in the standings.
It just didn't happen.
