Good Morning, Islanders Country.
Apologize for the tardiness, it was an early morning and late night yesterday.
One of the fringe benefits of the Isles winning Game 5 was that it allowed New York sports fans to enjoy everything that transpired over the next 48 hours (and ignore that the Mets have lost four in a row! - read MetsFix for reasons to stay calm). Instead of exit interviews and lamenting what went wrong this season, and in this series, the Emerald Lot and UBS Arena will be full of optimism, excitement, and some nerves for Game 6.
It’s all a reminder of why we love sports - for moments like these. For your football team to make a franchise-altering move, for your basketball team to achieve postseason success after decades of dysfunction, to root against your rival against another lesser rival later tonight.
Moments of hope, moments of validity, moments where you can soak in a win or take joy in your rival’s misery. Tonight is one more night where we get to be spectators. But tomorrow, as Islanders fans, that changes, and we’re back to waiting and worrying about what type of moment they’ll deliver us.
Coming up, Alexander Romanov is fighting through it, and Mathew Barzal is finding his shot at the right time. Plus, recent 3-1 series comebacks, Shane Prince leads the Isles to a Game 1 win, and the Canes are selling tickets to Game 2.
