Good Morning, Islanders Country.
Can I say something? I wasn’t bothered by Monday night’s loss, not even a little bit. The Islanders were shut out for the fifth time this season and were 0-for-5 on the power play, and I went to sleep at 1:00 am pretty fine with all of it.
Why, you ask? It’s because I know this team is different now. They didn’t luck their way into six straight regulation wins. It had been building for weeks without consistent results before the wins started coming.
That’s why the team sounded steadfast after the loss to the Kings. Sure, they were upset that momentum was stifled momentarily, but they knew that they played well, but not great, against a quality opponent. It was a tight, defensive playoff-type game with limited even-strength chances for both teams. They didn’t revert back to allowing 35+ shots a night and double-digit high-danger chances.
If they play like that most nights, they’ll be in a position to win. They just need to finish, and after scoring 13 goals in the previous two games, I’m not about to get worked up about a one-game drought, especially on the second night of a back-to-back, where they have struggled all season (0-4-3).
