KEY MOMENT(s):

🔷 Anders Lee opened up the scoring, picking up a puck behind the net and stuffing it in past Hart with a second effort to give the Isles a 1-0 lead.

🔶 After York cut the lead to 2-1, the Isles responded as Pierre Engvall stopped, cut back, and then made a precise backdoor pass to Nelson for a 3-1 lead.

3 REACTIONS

DEFENDED HARD: “They had they had a push into third, but we defended hard and defended well for the most part,” head coach Lane Lambert said. “They threw a lot of pucks in the net, and when our goaltender had to make some saves, he certainly did.”

FEET UNDER US: “It's good to start the game with a lead,” Anders Lee said. “We wanted to establish our legs and establish our game as early as possible, especially coming off the western Canada trip to get our feet under us. That’s our focus every night, but getting one early tonight was always big.”

GOT A CUSHION: “We wanted to get on the attack and be aggressive but still play smart at the same time,” Brock Nelson said. “To be able to get that third one, it was nice to get a cushion.”

NEXT UP: Following Thanksgiving, the Islanders are up in Ottawa for a game against the Senators on Black Friday. Face-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET.

📊 STANDINGS:

📚 SOUND SMART: Per NHL PR, Brock Nelson scored and became the eighth player in Islanders history to record 250 career goals with the franchise. The goal was Nelson's second goal of the game and marked his 32nd multi-goal game with the Islanders, which is tied with Bob Bourne for the 10th-most in team history.

🎥 ISLES REWIND: On November 23, 2018, Mathew Barzal scored on his own rebound after being stopped on a breakaway at 3:40 of overtime, and the Islanders beat the New Jersey Devils 4-3 in Newark. "There was more skin in the battle than we've had in the last couple of games, so I'll take our game," Islanders head coach Barry Trotz said. "New Jersey has been a very good team at home; they've been dynamite at home. I liked a lot of our game."

🔗 Islanders nip Flyers for second straight win quelling doubts surrounding Lane Lambert by Ethan Sears, New York Post The best place to dispel doubt is on the ice. Islanders coach Lane Lambert was under fire last week. His team has now strung together consecutive wins for the first time in nearly a month.”

🔗 Islanders' Bo Horvat, Mathew Barzal gaining confidence in each other on top line by Andrew Gross, Newsday “We’re starting to get more used to each other,” Horvat said. “He’s got tremendous skill and puck-handling ability. For me, it’s trying to get my timing and knowing where he’s going to be or how he’s going to act out there and how he’s going to maneuver around the ice. I’m starting to figure that out.”

And we leave you with this …. congratulatory messages for Cal Clutterbuck
