It was a bit surreal for me on Friday when NewYorkIslanders.com posted an article on our book on the homepage. Cory Wright had interviewed us, and we had done a photoshoot a week earlier, so we expected it was coming out, but it’s different to see it!

Good Morning, Islanders Country.
I was wrong. I’ll admit it. I didn’t see this coming. And yes, I know the Islanders are still no lock to make the playoffs, let alone make a run, but when I say “this,” I’m just talking about this last stretch of games.
The Islanders are 9-3-3 in their last 15 games and are now 4-1-1 without Mathew Barzal, but it’s really been the last three games where they’ve played the structured, defensively responsible style that feels sustainable. It’s the first time all season that you can turn on a game expecting a specific type of effort.
There was more of that on Saturday afternoon; they dominated the Detroit Red Wings. The scoreboard reflected that at the end of the game, but it felt that way from the start, even as the Isles entered the third period down 1-0. The fun “Deserve to Win O’Meter” from MoneyPuck backed up what our eyes told us.
“I think we’re doing a lot of good things,” head coach Lane Lambert said after the game. “Every game, as I’ve said before, is an individual entity… but I like the way our team is playing, and I like our thought process and how we’re playing, and we need to continue to do that.”
A lot of good things that have led to the Islanders hitting their stride at the right time, and as the margin for error in the Wild Card standings remains painfully thin, there will have to be a lot more good things still to come.
