Good Morning, Islanders Country.
Welp. That glass is starting to look half empty.
Last night in Minnesota would’ve been a disappointing and disheartening performance under any circumstances, but especially so following the disastrous loss to Nashville on Saturday night. The Isles didn’t have their legs, they didn’t have fight, and they didn’t have a sense of urgency. They were hoping for redemption, and instead all they got was embarrassed.
"They were ready to go and we weren't. That's on the guys in this room. At the end of the day I gotta be a lot better and figure out a way to get the team going and get ourselves going. Obviously that was unacceptable tonight and embarrassing." - Bo Horvat
Head Coach Lane Lambert said his team wasn’t 100% committed to playing the game the right way. The effort wasn’t there when they needed it. It’s unacceptable, Lambert knows it, the players know it and yet it happened.
In the post-game, captain Anders Lee said the team needs to get pissed off.
Their fans already are.
There’s no way to know whether Lambert is on the hot seat or not. In the minds of the fanbase, he should be. At other inflection points this season, the team was stumbling, but collecting points. This time, it’s different.
The Isles are slumping and fading, going 2-5-1 in their last eight games and have gone from battling for second place in the Metro to 10th in the Eastern Conference with the New Jersey Devils a point behind with two games in hand.
For the second consecutive January, his team is sliding down the standings and out of a playoff spot. Last year, Lambert was afforded the opportunity to turn things around and did. The question is, will he this time?
